Hi friends!!
It’s been a while, I know. The last several months of my life have been a whirlwind, and finding time to sit down and create a post has been hard to find. Here’s a real quick update…
In July my daughter had her second set of tubes placed. That day was extremely long. We were at the hospital at 5 am, she was a rockstar, and then the rockstar decided she was not tired when we got home. When she finally crashed for a nap, I knew if I fell asleep, we would not make it to Vacation Bible School that afternoon. We had gone the night before, and she fell in love with it. I mean, who am I to deprive her of that over a few hours of sleep? I toughed it out, got her up and dressed, and made the hour(ish) drive to the church my dad pastors for VBS. This is the church that I grew up in, and the church family has watched her grow over the last few years. They love her and she loves them, so of course we had to stay the entire time. You never would have known she had a procedure done 12 hours earlier. Rockstar, like I said. Once we finally got home that night, my boyfriend was at our house. I was taking her name tag off of her shirt and it left some residue, so I stripped it off of her. He took her to get another shirt while I worked on getting it cleaned. Next thing I know, I hear him say “show mama your new shirt”, and she was wearing a shirt with a picture of all three of us on it, and a proposal. By the time I saw it and read it, he was on his knee with a ring. July 15th, I got engaged to my best friend, and the wedding planning began.
We decided to do a small, family only ceremony on September 7th. Yes, that’s right, less than two months passed between our engagement and wedding. We chose to have a short engagement for several reasons, but at the root of it all we had no doubts about what we wanted. There was no reason to prolong an engagement. Needless to say, the two months in between were a blur. There were lots of late nights, even more DIY projects, and tons of teamwork. Thanks to my family and my in-laws, things came together seamlessly and we had the most beautiful ceremony with our loved ones. A beautiful day to start our beautiful life together.
Being the people we are, neither one of us took the Monday after off of work, and we both regretted it the second our alarms went off. Nevertheless, it was back to the real word. On top of the wedding planning, I had just stepped into a new role at work the first of July. I just barely had gotten my feet under me by the time of the wedding. When I went back to work the following Monday, things were going full speed. Even though things had slowed down at home, work picked up the slack. Even with the chaos that can sometimes come with education, there is no doubt in the world that this is where my heart is. I absolutely love my job, my coworkers, and the organization. If you know me personally and know the previous organization that I worked under, you know how huge this is for me. I still pick up shifts in the unit, and the ability to still be in patient care is nice, too. And being at home every afternoon with my daughter, I can’t even begin to explain how much I cherish that.
Right after our engagement, we took a trip to Atlanta to see my sister-in-law. We had the best tour guide and got to see lots of neat places. We went to the aquarium, ate lots of good food, and tried twice to go to a Braves game. We got rained out both times but being in Truist Park was still so much fun in itself. We ate ice cream several times, which is a staple on any vacation and debatably my daughter’s favorite part.
After getting settled in our new home, it seems like we had a second to breathe and then we jumped right into holiday season. This is easily my favorite time of year. Now that I have a house to decorate for the holidays, I am all into DIY projects and decor. I made the Tik Tok garland for fall. It took me a couple of days, but I thought it turned out super cute. Our church also introduced a “Thankful Pumpkin”, and we loved getting to participate during the month of November. If you don’t know what a Thankful Pumpkin is, I’ll tell you. During the month of November, you take a pumpkin and write something you’re thankful for on it each day. I chose to buy an artificial pumpkin so that we could collect them each year and look back during the Thanksgiving season. It became one of our favorite things to do as a family during the month and really made us think about what all we have been blessed with. I can’t wait for next year, to see how our mindsets and blessings grow.
My husband and my mom typically hold true to the idea that no Christmas decorations go up until after Thanksgiving. This year, I won that battle and my decorations went up about the middle of November. I am of the mindset that Christmas is a season, and I can enjoy my Thanksgiving meal while looking at my Christmas tree. This year we bought a new tree, full of glitter, which my husband LOVES. (I’m being sarcastic, if you can’t tell. But he does love me, so he tolerates the glitter.) I cannot wait to continue through this holiday season with our little family.
Throughout my hiatus, I have learned how much value there is in taking time for not only my family, but also for myself. We have made memories that we will be grateful for in years to come. I have learned how to DIY so many things that I can no longer consider myself as not being crafty. I’ve also started cooking more, and I have found so much joy in finding new recipes to make my own. While I promise to make a better effort of posting, I give no guarantee that it won’t be sporadic. Anyone that takes the time to read and follow along with me holds a special place in my heart. I trust that you guys understand the desires of my heart; not only to pour into you, but also to be fully present and attentive to my family.
